How to Get Ish Done Throughout The Day (Especially if you're Work from Home)

I’ve been there: you’re at home with a lengthy to-do list, and you decide to watch just one episode of your show before starting. Next thing you know, it’s 6 p.m. and you're not quite sure where the day went. Whether you’re a weekend warrior with chores to do, or an at-home employee, it can be hard to get stuff done during the day. Here’s my go-to tips:

1) Turn off distractions

I get it - you’re at home and you can normally focus while watching Friends in the background. Some days it may work for you, some days it won’t. On the days it doesn’t and you need extra focus, turn off every distraction. Put on a calming playlist, turn your phone on do not disturb, and turn off the TV.

2) Have a to-do list

Write down every single thing you have to do, no matter how small it may seem. It’s hard to focus on tasks if you feel a nagging sense that you’re forgetting something. Write it all down.

3) Time block

Sometimes your list is insanely long with a myriad of work, chores, and miscellaneous things to do. Once your to-do list is written, turn to your calendar to schedule things out. I recommend time block your calendar. Spend the morning purely focused on work. At lunch break or the weekend afternoon, do an hour of chores. Time block your calendar and remember you have an abundance of time.

4) Prioritize

There are some days that are just too overwhelming. Prioritize the tasks that absolutely need to be done. This will give you intense focus to finish those and you might even find you have leftover energy for more!

5) Wake up early

Obvious but if you need to get ish done, get up early and get it done. It makes things worse if you start your day late because you’ll always be behind and will feel even more stressed.

6) Take breaks

My favorite break is an active one - go for a quick walk or throw yourself a dance party. Do this every few hours on busy days, and about every hour on average days. It helps get your blood flowing and releases anxious energy.

7) Have a good playlist

If you have a good playlist, you can find yourself powering through work and focusing even harder. You can check out my Chill Vibes playlist (my favorite work playlist) on Apple Music here.

8) Just do it

Yes, it’s that simple. Set your mind right and get it done.
