Career Champion: Alyssa Bove

This month I’m so excited to introduce Alyssa Bove! Alyssa is the owner and designer of Trending Above, an absolutely adorable jewelry and accessory line. I had the privilege of meeting Alyssa in-person at an event last year and she is as sweet and gorgeous as she looks in real life! Alyssa offered amazing entrepreneurial advice for other women and I’m so excited to dive in:

1) You own the gorgeous jewelry line, Trending Above. Tell us about it.

TrendingAbove is a fashion jewelry brand that keeps you trending. It offers statement jewelry, everyday minimalist pieces and bridal collections. The focus is a buildable collection fit for multiple occasions. TrendingAbove jewelry can be purchased online: www.trendingabove.com, boutiques and pop up shop events.

2) How did you get into jewelry design and eventually your own business?

I majored in Architecture in college. I learned the elements of design. Then during my studies, my passion led me to apply the concepts of architectural design to jewelry and fashion. I started using the computer programs to build molds for jewelry.

3) Did you always want to be an entrepreneur? What are the best things about entrepreneurship? What are the challenges?

I did not necessarily seek out to be an entrepreneur. However, I always wanted to create my own designs. TrendingAbove allowed me to execute my designs from start to production. The positives included following through and executing my passion. The challenges were no outline for how to run TrendingAbove. It was all trial and error.

4) What does your typical day look like?

I start each day with a large cup of coffee as I am sorting through TrendingAbove emails.  Then my everyday routine consists of connecting with boutiques to carry TrendingAbove, making phone calls with suppliers, fulfilling online orders, posting on social media, and brainstorming trends for future seasons.

5) What is the most impactful story or lesson from your career?

Trust the process and journey. Failures and setbacks are a part of your career path and are necessary.

6) There's a growing movement of women entrepreneurs, what is your advice to other women looking to get started owning their own business?

When owning a business, embrace for longevity. Train for a marathon rather than the quick gratification from a sprint. The sooner you start, the sooner you iron out your ideas. Be patient.

7) Go back to college graduation: what would you tell yourself?

Everyone is going at their own pace in the real world. Focus on your own path.

8) How do you find inspiration?

Art , Instagram, travel and magazines all inspire me. I usually look to my own wardrobe to create jewelry pieces to accessorize.

9) Who is your role model?

In the fashion industry, Tory Burch and Kendra Scott. They both have built fashion brands and maintained an elegance throughout the journey.
