Boss Babe: Lulu Godin

Continuing with my favorite series: Boss Babes! One thing I love about the blogging community is meeting incredible, strong, beautiful, courageous and wildly talented, smart, innovative, entrepreneurial boss babes, chief chicas, inspiring women. Every month, I'm going to spotlight one of these incredible role models and share a little bit about what makes them amazing.

Lulu Godin has been a source of inspiration since I between my wellness journey four years ago. Her real AF captions, killer workouts and delicious recipes showed me that wellness can be fun and realistic. Since joining the blogging/IG game, she has been a great buddy on the ‘gram and her content continues to get better and better. If you watch her stories, you’ll be feeling like a friend in no time.

1) You are a holistic health coach - what does this entail? What type of work do you do with clients?

Yes, so I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Personal Trainer and Registered Holistic Health Coach. Basically what I do is work with clients on a one on one basis to help them with anything that they may be struggling with from weight loss, to hormone balancing to blood sugar regulation and so much more! I have a very detailed intake process when new clients decide to work with me that allows me to fully analyze their lifestyle, fitness routine, diet and any nutritional imbalances so that I can have a better understanding of which areas need the most attention and from there I create a detailed personalized nutrition, supplement, lifestyle and occasionally workout plan as well for them!

2) In addition to your health coaching biz, you also run a highly successful blog and instagram account. Tell us about it - what do you hope to accomplish through these platforms?

Well I just launched my podcast - @healthydoseofrealnesspodcast (shameless plug) so that is one of my main focuses right now! I would love to build that because I really feel it I the best way to share useful information with my audience, I love podcasts so much because they are the only content that doesn't take away someones time hen you consume them behave you can literally listen to them anywhere while you do anything! I would also really love to continue growing my social media audience and sharing my knowledge about nutrition and health and empowering women through self love! That's all I ever want to do. I also have some fun top secret projects in the works so stay tuned for those!

3) How did you get into health and wellness as a career?

I was actually raised completely vegetarian in a holistic and health conscious household so I guess you could say that my passion for wellness is in my genes. I struggled very severely with Binge Eating Disorder from the age of 16-21 and it brought me to a very dark place when it came to my body as well as my diet and exercise. Through restricting so heavily during my ED I messed up my metabolism and my body and have struggled since then with trying to get my metabolism back up, as well as with poor digestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and hormonal imbalances. Fitness and nutrition really opened my eyes to the power of proper nutrition to heal the body and the mind and educating myself on how to nourish my body really allowed me to pull myself out of my eating disorder. I decided to pursue a career in the health and wellness industry when I realized that I could actually heal myself and others through proper nutrition, supplements, exercise and a healthy lifestyle change and I have realized over the years that when I am exercising, nourishing and treating my body properly I feel the most empowered and I want to share that with as many people as possible.

4) Walk us through a typical day in the life of Lulu.

I wake up anywhere from 6am-6:30am, then I immediately wash my face and brush my teeth, then I make warm lemon water with pink Himalayan salt. After that I meditate and journal and then make my coffee then I will set goals for the day and then I will check social media and my calendar/ planner for the day. Then around 8/8:30 I go to workout for an hour or so and then come home and make breakfast (usually a smoothie) then I shower and get ready for my day. My day's vary, sometimes I have in person trainman clients or in person nutrient client meetings, sometimes I have meetings in Vancouver which is a 30 minute drive from me, sometimes I am home all day doing content creation and social media and sometimes I have a mix of all of those things throughout my day, no day really looks the same! I usually try to finish all meetings and work by 7pm at the latest and then I will make dinner and try to unwind a bit!

5) How do you balance your business, Instagram and self care?

Oh gosh, sometimes it feels impossible! I am a very Type A, all or nothing kind of person and I'm extremely hard on myself so when I first became self employed my self care was the last thing on my mind but I quickly burnt out. Last year I suffered pretty badly with adrenal fatigue which turned into full on adrenal exhaustion and although it SUCKED, it was defiantly the wake up call that I needed to slow the f down and really start to prioritize myself over my business because at the end of the day there is no business without me so I need to be top priority. I think I've gotten to a point where I really do know when and how to prioritize myself over my business. For me it's all about listening to your body and knowing when you need to take time to yourself, it's so easy to get caught up in things and end up working until 10pm every night but it's important to set boundaries in place. So personally I don't check my phone or turn on any devices until at least an hour after I've woken up in the morning and I try to shut everything down by 8pm at the latest every night! I also make time throughout my day to prioritize myself, I have a VERY specific morning routine that really grounds me and sets my day up in a positive way, I meditate, I journal, I make sure to take an hour every day to move my body in some way and I prioritize my nutrition every single day to make sure I feel my best!

6) What is the biggest lesson you've learned in 2019 so far?

To let go of my need to always have control over everything and just trust the process and the power of the universe. As I said I am very type A, I like to be in control of everything at all time (just ask my previous partners and friends LOL). I hate surprises and I really don't do well with the unknown, so loosening the reigns when it comes to control has been huge for me not only in my life but in my business!

7) Go back to college graduation: what would you tell yourself?

That you are more than enough and you don't need to change yourself or your body to feel like you are worthy. That was a challenging time for me, it was the peak of my eating disorder and most days I felt so out of control and uncomfortable in my body that I didn't really know who I was anymore so I would definitely tell that girl to stop comparing herself, to love herself and allow herself to just be.

8) How do you find inspiration?

I go for walks and get into nature, I read, I journal, I listen to a TON of really motivating podcasts and I am VERY careful with the content that I consume. For me it's really easy to get sucked in to the comparison trap so I have a small amount of people who's content I consume on social media, podcasts and even in my real life because I am my most inspired when I'm not comparing myself to anyone!

9) Who is your role model?

This is a tough one, if I had to pick someone I would probably say Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential, she is literally the biggest boss babe in the game and I have looked up to her for years! Other than her I would say myself, I try to live my life in alignment with who I am and where I want to be and I think that you should always strive to be someone that you would look up to and be proud of before you strive to be someone that someone else looks up to.
